1. New pre-submission checklists now available
|
|
Protocols and reviews submitted to Cochrane Central Editorial Service must be of publishable standard and ready for peer review. Check your manuscript meets Cochrane requirements before you submit. - STEP 1: open the Cochrane review template as a practice review in RevMan. Compare each section of your manuscript with the reporting guidance in the template. The template is for intervention reviews, but information in many sections is relevant to all review types. If you are not writing an intervention review, you can also check the PRISMA website for any extension that might be relevant for your review.
- STEP 2: Download and complete a pre-submission checklist.
The checklists highlight key sections in RevMan and explain essential information to include. They also link to Cochrane policies with which you must comply. You can access the checklists at the links above or from our Author guidelines. We want these checklists to be useful to authors! If you download and use one, please let us know what you think.

2. AI technologies in Cochrane: upcoming web clinic 9th May 2024

Please join us for May’s Methods Support Unit web clinic on Artificial Intelligence technologies in Cochrane Presenters: Anna Noel-Storr, Head of Pipeline Evidence and Data Curation at Cochrane, Ella Flemyng, Head of Editorial Policy and Research Integrity at Cochrane and Professor James Thomas, Principal Investigator of the Evidence Reviews Facility for the Department of Health and Social Care, England. With the recent and rapid advances of AI technologies, and the plethora of new tools available, it can be challenging to know how best to implement these tools without compromising on the quality and integrity of the review. This web clinic will cover: - How Cochrane currently uses automation and machine learning in review production.
- What generative artificial intelligence is, the opportunities it brings and the challenges regarding its safe use.
- Cochrane’s approach to establishing guidelines for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in evidence synthesis
The web clinic will take place at 09.00 UTC on Thursday 9th May 2024.

3. Diversity, equity and inclusion survey in Editorial Manager
|
|
If you have logged in to our Central Editorial Manager site recently, you may already have noticed a change to the login process. From Wednesday 10 April, everyone who logs in or registers on our Central Editorial Manager site will be asked to complete a short diversity, equity and inclusion questionnaire. There are three questions, which ask for information on gender, ethnicity and race. The survey questions are based on those recommended by the Joint commitment for action on inclusion and diversity in publishing. Cochrane is committed to supporting a research community that represents a diverse range of backgrounds. We would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete the questions, so that we can understand our author community better. If you have already completed the survey - thank you! Important points to note: - The information you provide is anonymous. Only aggregated data will be visible to Cochrane.
- The information you provide is stored externally to Editorial Manager and cannot be used when evaluating submissions.
- If you are not comfortable providing the requested information, each question offers an option ‘Prefer not to disclose’.
- You will be asked to answer the survey once: the first time you log in or register on our Central Editorial Manager site after Wednesday 10 April 2024. You can change your answers at any time, using the ‘Update my information’ option on your Editorial Manager profile.
- If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to contact support@cochrane.org

Looking for a new member of your author team? Cochrane Engage now makes it easier to find people who have the skills you need. We’ve added to the list of 'Skills and Interests' so task posters can now ask for people with skills in project management, review development, and writing (drafting and editing). More details are provided in this helpful article. A new ‘Join an author team’ button on the homepage allows people to view all authoring tasks in one click. This makes it much easier to find suitable tasks. People can also sign up for email notifications when a task that matches their skills is posted – so you could get a response to your task very quickly. Learn more about what skills you need on your author team with our 10-minute micro-learning module. Test your knowledge with a quiz! If you are looking to join an author team, you can use the new ‘Join an author team’ button to view relevant tasks. We also recommend you add any authoring skills to your profile in your Cochrane Account. This will allow other interested teams to search for your profile on Cochrane Engage. If you have any questions about using Cochrane Engage please email engage@cochrane.org

5. Sign up to give feedback on working with Summary of Findings tables
|
|
Help us understand how well the integration between RevMan and GRADEpro works for creating Summary of Findings tables. We are interested in interviewing authors who already have experience in creating Summary of Findings tables in GRADEpro GDT and those who have not yet used it. The interviews will take place on May 7th and May 9th, last around 60-75 minutes long and will be conducted online using MS Teams. During the session we will ask you to walk through key parts of the process. Please complete this short questionnaire to sign-up.

7. Farewell to Cochrane UK
|
|
We are very sad to see the closure of Cochrane UK. Their vital work over the past three decades helped to make Cochrane into the successful global organization that it is today. Cochrane UK played a vital role in advocating for evidence-based healthcare including providing invaluable support to Cochrane activities in the UK and beyond. Several of our CET colleagues joined the Cochrane UK team at their farewell gathering to bid them goodbye and express appreciation for their significant contributions to global healthcare. Before the closure, we explored options for a new host and funder, but in this challenging environment we were unfortunately unable to secure this. We remain open to applications, should any group wish to host Cochrane UK in the future.

RevMan allows you to create 4 or 6 different types of figure, depending on whether the review is using risk of bias 2 or risk of bias 1: forest plot, funnel plot, risk of bias graph (rob 1 only), risk of bias summary (rob 1 only), flow diagram and 'other'. Select the figure type from the drop-down menu when creating a new figure. RevMan also automatically renumbers figures for publication in the order in which they appear in the published review. Read more in the RevMan Knowledge Base.
