1. Embracing new random-effects methods for systematic reviews of interventions
Cochrane is committed to providing our users with the most up-to-date methodologies to produce more accurate and robust research results. Following the recommendations of the Cochrane Statistical Methods Group, RevMan (Cochrane's bespoke software for writing Cochrane Reviews) is introducing a new set of statistical methods to be used along with the random-effects model in systematic reviews of interventions. Read the news item to find out more.

2. Join the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews Editorial Board
Cochrane is seeking Senior and Associate editors in the topic areas of Cancer, Common Mental Disorders, Pediatrics, and Infectious Diseases to join our multi-role editorial board. This is a voluntary role, and we aim to make it manageable for editors in terms of time commitment. As an editor, your role will be to provide expert guidance for manuscripts submitted to the Cochrane Central Editorial Service and help shape the future of evidence synthesis. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact us at editorial-service@cochrane.org

3. Author funding information
When submitting in Editorial Manager, authors now have the option to select from the Open Funder Registry to show how their review is funded. We have updated our author submission and revision instructions. From 3 March, it will be mandatory to complete this information. There is the option to select ‘No funding received’ if this is not relevant to your review. Information provided at submission and revision must match the ‘Sources of support’ section of your review in RevMan.

You can now see how often users of the Cochrane Library are accessing your review. This adds another article-level metric to existing data about use in guidelines, Altmetric scores, Wikipedia and citations.

5. New decision framework for updating of Cochrane reviews
Cochrane has released a new framework to help editors and authors decide when to update a Cochrane review. The framework does not represent a change of policy, but offers practical guidance on how to best implement our existing policies and principles. Read the news item to find out more.

6. Upcoming web clinic on prognosis reviews
The March Methods Support Unit web clinic will cover systematic reviews of prognosis studies. In this web clinic, Professor Carl Moons and Dr Anneke Damen from the Prognosis Methods Group will provide a brief overview of the different types of prognosis reviews, the steps in conducting a prognosis review and an overview of the guidance that is already available.

7. Latest recordings of Methods Support Unit web clinics now available
The recordings from the web clinics covering the new random-effects methods in RevMan are available - more information here. The first clinic covered the rationale behind the new methods and the second demonstrated their implementation in RevMan. The recording of the February web clinic is also available here. In this clinic, Emma Axon discussed the results of a scoping review examining the inclusion of non-randomised studies of interventions in Cochrane reviews.
