1. Increasing the impact of your Cochrane reviews with changes to data sharing
Cochrane has just made a change in the data we share, to increase the impact of our evidence and make our data more accessible and re-usable. The data associated with Cochrane Reviews are now available in a new enhanced RevMan data package; downloadable alongside reviews on the Cochrane Library published since 25 April 2023 - and available in RevMan for reviews in progress. This new data package not only includes full analysis data, but also study data, risk of bias assessments and references. All data are presented in standard, easily reusable formats, such as CSV and RIS. As Reviews with this data package are published, it will increase the impact of Cochrane’s Reviews and allow researchers, policymakers, practitioners and others to access and use Cochrane evidence more easily. Read more about this change and what it means for you here.

2. Submit your data alongside your manuscript PDF
Cochrane has changed the data we share to increase the impact of Cochrane Reviews and make data more accessible and usable. The data associated with your review are now available in a new data package from RevMan that includes analysis data, study data, risk of bias assessments and references. When you submit your new or revised draft to Editorial Manger, upload both your article PDF and the new RevMan data package (packaged as a zip file of supplementary materials) for your review or update. The new data package can then be accessed by editors and peer reviewers reviewing your submission. Watch our short video tutorial on how to submit to Editorial Manager to see how to upload the new files. You can also consult detailed instructions about how to download the new RevMan data package and how to submit to Editorial Manager. Read more about this here.

Following the launch of the new RevMan data package, we have updated our License for Publication forms to reflect the new, associated data sharing policy and to clarify some of the terms. The change to License for Publication forms means that you may need to sign updated License for Publication forms when making changes or amendments to a published review. We are therefore grateful for your help in ensuring that published versions are free from errors. When reviewing your proofs after copy editing, please check your name and affiliation displays correctly. Read carefully through the review Abstract, which is shared on PubMed and with other third parties. Also, flag any changes needed to your Managing Editor. This reduces the need for amendments after publication. If you would like a submission to publish on a specific date (for example, to correspond with a press release or linked guideline), please let your Managing Editor know when your review is accepted for publication. We can support authors with coordinating press releases and dissemination activities. Giving us advance notice of an embargo date helps us to ensure your submission moves smoothly through production. If you have any queries about publishing, please contact support@cochrane.org.

4. Proposals for new and updated reviews
We welcome proposals for all new Cochrane Reviews on our central Editorial Manager site. We are pleased to announce that we have now launched an additional online form for authors to propose an update to a published Cochrane Review. If you would like to begin work on a new protocol or update, please submit a proposal on our central site. If you are proposing a new review, please firstly complete an advanced search on the Cochrane Library to confirm your proposed review will add new evidence. When completing your online proposal form, tell us why your proposed review or update is topical and relevant, and how it will help users of Cochrane evidence with health decision-making. Proposals for new reviews and updates are considered by topic experts. If your proposal is accepted, you will be invited to submit a draft protocol or update to Cochrane Central Editorial Service. If you have any queries about proposing new reviews, please contact support@cochrane.org.

6. Top tips for Cochrane authors
It is important to tag versions when working in RevMan Web. These tagged versions will show in the History and will help all authors and editors keep track of what changes were made, by whom, and when. Tagging can also help if you need to compare versions or revert to a previous version. You can find out more about tagging a version here.
