1. Protocols and editorials are going open access
As part of our efforts to broaden access to Cochrane content, we are delighted to announce that all review protocols and editorials will be published with an open access license from 2025 onwards. Protocols accepted for publication from 8 November 2024 will be published with a Creative Commons non-commercial license without the need for an APC (article processing charge). For more information on our approach to broadening access, please see our open access strategy page.

5. PHSPH Thematic Group webinar: Getting research evidence to users
This Cochrane People, Health Systems and Public Health webinar marks one year since the launch of the Thematic Group in Norway. In the webinar, Prof John Lavis (McMaster University, Canada) and Dr Laura Boeira (Instituto Veredas, Brazil) will speak on the work of the Global Commission on Evidence to Address Societal Challenges. We will also have input from Maria Henningsen (Mid-Norway Health Trust) on the clinical networks that have been established within the Mid-Norway Health Trust, and how these are being used to help ensure that healthcare providers have good access to relevant evidence. A plenary discussion will focus on what can be learnt from this work to support efforts in Norway and other countries to ensure that users, including healthcare providers, have access to the best available evidence. Ralf Kirchhoff, professor of organization and management in health services at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), will join us for this discussion moderated by Simon Lewin (NTNU). In addition, we will provide an update on the activities of the Thematic Group. Date and time: 5 December 2024, 14.00 to 15.30 CET (Norway time)

7. New random-effects methods in RevMan: first web clinic recording available
Cochrane is implementing new random-effects methods in RevMan. These include a new method for estimating the between-study (heterogeneity) variance, calculating the confidence interval for the summary effect, and adding prediction intervals to aid in interpreting random-effects meta-analysis findings. The Methods Support Unit is running a series of two web clinics to introduce and demonstrate the changes. The recording from the first session is now available here, and the second session will take place on Thursday 12th December 2024 at 8pm UTC.

9. Support helpdesk and Cochrane Production Service Christmas closure
For Support helpdesk: - The helpdesk will be open Christmas Eve but with reduced staff capacity.
- The helpdesk will be closed 25th December - 1st January.
- We will reopen with reduced capacity on 2nd January.
For Cochrane Production Service: - Last copy-editing assignments before Christmas will be done by 1pm (GMT) on Thursday 19 December 2024.
- CPS will close at 5pm (GMT) on Friday 20 December 2024.
- CPS will reopen at 9am (GMT) on Monday 6 January 2025.
- Proofreads will be prioritised, and they are likely to form the bulk of assignments made in the first week back in 2025.
Copy-editing capacity over the Christmas and New Year period will be much reduced because most of the CPS team are taking a well-deserved break. However, some of the team will continue to work reduced hours.

Did you know that editing the automatically-generated filenames on your submission files can cause delays to your manuscript being processed? Each filename includes a unique identifier for the submission so any changes create technical errors when the submission is processed. Guidance on how to correctly submit a version is available in the RevMan Knowledge Base: Submit a version to Editorial Manager
