The #WhereAreThey Now Series

We have launched a series called #WhereAreTheyNow alongside the #MyCochraneStory initiative to showcase the different career paths and opportunities available to ECPs. Mid-career professionals share their insights and advice with our ECPs community.

Check it out and stay tuned for weekly posts on how to get started with Cochrane, with top tips for new researchers and ways to build your network.

First Online Meetup of 2021: presentation by Dr. Israel Borges

Our first Online Meetup of 2021 took place on Wednesday 17th February. Dr Israel Borges from the Federal University of Minas Gerais led an interactive discussion on fostering international co-operation and junior researchers’ engagement during a pandemic. The recording of the presentation can be accessed using the following link.

Spanish Journal Club 2: presentations by Luis Colunga-Lozano and Javier Pérez-Bracchiglione

Our Journal Club aims to provide early-career professionals an academic and social platform to present their work in areas related to Evidence-Based Health Practices, in order to make themselves known and generate discussion among their peers. On March 18, 2021, we had the opportunity to carry out our second Journal Club. On this occasion, we had the honor to present two works. The first was presented by Iván Solá, which was titled "PRESS: Revisión por pares de las estrategias de búsqueda electrónica". On the other hand, the second presentation was by Camila Escobar Liquitay and was called "PRISMA-S: una extensión de la Declaración PRISMA". This time, we had the fortune of hosting more than 50 participants in the seminars. The sessions were recorded and are on a playlist on Cochrane's YouTube channel.

We will continue to carry on the Spanish Journal Club every two months, the next session will be in mid-May. Stay tuned to our Twitter account for more information (@CochraneECP). For those who have a role within a Cochrane Centre, you can subscribe to the slack channel #all-ecp-español, where we maintain an active community and provide more information. Finally, if you are keen to present your work in the future, please contact Santiago Castiello.

News from our Members

Emma Doble, PhD student at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and patient editor at the BMJ, discusses her experience helping to organise Virtually Cochrane.

My name is Emma Doble, and I am a consumer coordinator at Cochrane UK. Recently, I have been working with Cochrane UK and Cochrane Ireland to plan their online event ‘Virtually Cochrane.’ The event is focused on the theme of ‘navigating evidence and uncertainty,’ and my role has been to identify ways to best engage consumers who may not have been involved with Cochrane before. I have been involved in discussions about the program content and identifying ways to ensure consumers can actively engage during the event (e.g., use of on demand content, social media, and chat functions within the platform). To learn more and register for the event, please visit the website.

Dolly Sud, PhD student Aston University and Senior Cllinical Pharmacist for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, discusses her two recent publications.

'The role of pharmacy in the management of cardiometabolic risk, metabolic syndrome and related diseases in severe mental illness: A mixed-methods systematic literature review' included a mapping review followed by intervention classification using the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care Taxonomy. The review found that face-to-face interaction between pharmacists and other healthcare professionals involved in the care improves patients' outcomes.

'Utilising dyads in medicines optimisation and illness management research' provides an introduction and overview to how dyads (i.e. the patient and the people who form their close social relationships) might be used in medicines optimisation and illness management research.
