1. Cochrane Evidence Synthesis Unit pilot - call for applications launching mid-October
In mid-October Cochrane will launch a call to set up a small number of pilot Evidence Synthesis Units. We look forward to engaging with Cochrane’s global community of evidence synthesis experts, to pilot this key part of Cochrane's new model of evidence production. Applications will remain open for approximately eight weeks and full details about eligibility, how to apply, and the selection process will be shared when the call is announced. Please feel free to circulate this information within your Cochrane networks, to anyone who may be interested in applying.

2. Supporting authors who plan to submit their protocol or review in 2024? Encourage them to switch to the focused review format now
Cochrane has launched a more focused review format. This shorter article focuses on the main review findings. Data and information that provide additional context or enhance your findings are included in a package of supplementary materials. Cochrane reviews using this focused format will also follow standard publishing guidelines, such as PRISMA 2020 (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) for systematic reviews of interventions. Once you switch, you will need to make some changes to your review, such as checking internal links. Please see the RevMan Web Knowledge Base for more information and register for the upcoming webinar on Changes to the review format with study centric data and a focused review article: What does it mean for authors? (3 and 4 October). The recording is available from a recent webinar that covered why we are changing the review and data format, how we will monitor success and plans going forward.

3. Cochrane's newest Thematic Group: People, Health Systems and Public Health - an interview with Simon Lewin
On 4 October, Cochrane’s People, Health Systems and Public Health Thematic Group will be inviting colleagues and CET Staff to join a seminar for their Norway launch. To find out more about their group’s plans, we caught up with Simon Lewin, Professor of Health Management and Health Systems at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the South African Medical Research Council, and co-lead of the new Thematic Group. 6. Embedded Twitter (X) timelines are no longer displaying correctly on Cochrane websites
As of July 2023, embedded Twitter (now known as X) timelines have not been displaying correctly. This is a general issue that is not just limited to Cochrane websites. There has not been an official announcement from Twitter (X) regarding this so it is unknown whether this is a bug that will be fixed or if it is due to changes to their access policies. At present, we are recommending that groups who notice this issue disable their feed or contact Cochrane Support, who will be able to disable this on your behalf.

7. Accepted proposals for new reviews and updates
You can view proposals that were accepted from 18 August to 18 September 2023. In this period 28 proposals were accepted. Author teams of 18 accepted proposals are being supported by a group and 10 author teams are working independently. This information will be updated monthly.
