2. DTA Peer Review process in Editorial Manager
The Editorial Manager (EM) project team have been working with the DTA Editorial Team to simplify the process of including the DTA search, methods and statistical peer review in Editorial Manager. The process with the DTA Editorial Team has been updated as of today, using the process as outlined in the updated Editorial Manager Knowledge Base page for Editorial Internal and external review for diagnostic test accuracy (please see details of the process at the end of this email). Please take the following actions for DTA submissions at the following stages in Editorial Manager:
Stage | Action | - DTA articles not yet submitted
| | - DTA submissions ready for DTA peer review (or re-review), where the DTA Editorial Team haven’t yet been contacted
| | - DTA submissions already shared with the DTA Editorial Team, and the DTA peer review (or re-review) is underway but not yet completed
| - Please use the process described in the EM Knowledge Base (invite DTA Editorial Team to peer review now), but edit the invitation email to note that the article has already been shared previously with the DTA Editorial Team, and that the DTA Editorial Team should use the links within the email to submit the DTA peer review report to EM
| - DTA submissions where DTA peer review (or re-review) is already complete and the DTA peer review report has already been shared with the CRG or Central Editorial Service outside of EM, but the comments have not yet been shared with the authors
| - DTA submissions where DTA peer review (or re-review) is already completed and comments have already been shared with authors
| |
If you have any queries about this process, please do not hesitate to contact Cochrane Support on support@cochrane.org.

3. Withdrawal of protocols
Since December 2021 there has been an interim policy in place to not withdraw protocols for reasons other than serious error. As of 1 March 2022, this becomes a confirmed policy: neither reviews nor protocols should be withdrawn for reasons other than serious error. This revised withdrawal policy will in future transform into a retraction policy. If editorial teams wish to indicate that a protocol will not be progressed, they should instead use the Editorial Note feature to add a statement to the review clarifying its status. For information on how to add an Editorial Note see Editorial note: editorial guidance, where you can also find standard templates for notes to describe common reasons for protocols not progressing.

4. Information Specialists Search Peer Review Team
After consultation with the Information Specialist (IS) Executive and the Editorial Manager (EM) Project Team, we are refining our approach to conducting search peer review across Cochrane with EM. For all Cochrane editorial teams (Cochrane Review Groups and the Central Editorial Service), there will be one dedicated team of IS search peer reviewers available through EM. The IS Peer Review Team is made up of IS volunteer members who have agreed to receive requests for search peer review. The IS Peer Review Team will perform all Cochrane search peer review from March 2022, replacing the current arrangement of searches being peer reviewed by an IS within the same Network as the Cochrane Review Group where the article is registered. Cochrane editorial teams will send a template email to the IS Peer Review Team when they have received an article requiring search peer review, and the editorial team will assign search peer review to the first person offering to review. For more information on managing search peer review in EM, please see Information Specialist search peer review. Please note that there has been no change in the requirements for editorial teams to conduct search peer review, and remains as stated in the Cochrane Handbook that search peer review is strongly recommended.
