1. Occasional errors in author order
|
|
We have received a few reports in recent weeks of errors in author order being introduced, which causes the author order between Archie and RMW to not match. The solution is to move authors up and down in Archie, which usually "resets" the order in RMW. The technical team is not sure of the cause of this at this time, however they are creating a ticket to fix all review author orders. The Support team is also checking all author orders prior to publication. If MEs can please double check the author order in RMW prior to publication, this would be ideal and appreciated.

2. Reminder: Copy-edit Christmas shut-down
|
|
From Elizabeth Royle: Here are the details of the CPS (previously CES) closure over Christmas and New Year 2022-23: - 12 pm GMT Friday 16 December 2022: final assignments to CPS copy-editors
- 5 pm GMT Friday 16 December 2022: CPS shuts
- 9 am GMT Wednesday 4 January 2023: CPS reopens
Some of the CPS team will continue to work across the holiday period. The last day on which I will be assigning copy-editing before the break will be Friday 16 December: assigning will probably be completed by 12 pm, so please ensure that I know about any urgent submissions well before then (see below). Please note: - assignments allocated in the run-up to the CES break will have at least 14 days allowed for completion, and probably more;
- proofreads are always prioritised, and we anticipate that they will form the bulk of assignments made in the first week back in 2023.
URGENT submissions If you have a review that needs to be published by a particular date (i.e. is urgent or needs to be given priority), please make sure that I know it is required urgently now, and why it is urgent, so that I can either put it on my ‘expected’ list, or adjust our notes for submissions we have already received. Reviews with funding-related deadlines, or that are contributing to guidelines will take priority, but please do alert me if your search is due to pass the 12 months point too. I am happy for you to use capital letters, colours, sound effects etc. to draw my attention to the urgency – polite messages tucked away in the text are easily missed. Please mention the urgency clearly and obviously in EVERY message concerning that submission. CES availability You will be aware that currently submissions are waiting longer for a copy editor to be assigned than is desirable, for which I can only apologise. At present the availability of the CES team is good, and we are doing our best to fix this, but as we approach Christmas the availability of the team will reduce and further delays may develop, so I would encourage you to send in submissions as early as possible, as this will give us the best chance of prioritising appropriately and returning them to you in a timely manner.
If you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to contact Denise or Elizabeth at production@cochrane.org.

We want to give you an early notice that from 25 April 2023, you will not be able to check in or check out Cochrane reviews using RevMan 5, and you will no longer be able to download RevMan 5. This change will not affect any Cochrane Review Groups closing in April. For those Groups continuing to operate after April, we are informing you early in order to support you through the transition. By April 2023 RevMan Web will support: - Editing of all review types including DTA reviews (estimated release December)
- Use of RevMan Web outside of Cochrane for individual subscribers (estimated release January 2023)
- Export of analysis and study data
- Import of study data from Covidence (for reviews using study-centric data)
- A service to convert RevMan 5 files to data that can be pasted or imported into RevMan Web
We are making this strategic decision in order to support the transformation of Cochrane. Retiring RevMan 5 will enable the introduction of a new review format that will include key changes designed to reduce the workload of editors, peer reviewers, and copy editors and improve the author experience. You can learn more about the new review format from the recording of the webinar held on 10 November 2022. We know this may come as an inconvenience in an already hectic schedule and we recognize that it may take some time to learn a new tool. If you haven't tried using RevMan Web yet, you can easily get started following our top tips. If you are you uncertain about how the retirement of RevMan 5 will impact you, you can consult our list of FAQs. If you have questions or think your work will be impacted contact support@cochrane.org and if you have feedback for the RevMan Web roadmap, fill in the suggestion form.

4. A new open access journal for Cochrane: Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods
|

This journal strengthens Cochrane’s ability to meet its stakeholders’ needs and publish different types of evidence synthesis beyond systematic reviews. It also includes methods research evaluating how evidence syntheses is planned, produced and disseminated, and research articles on critical areas for evidence synthesis, such as, priority setting, consumer involvement, and research integrity.
