1. Update to title proposal process
Following feedback from some MEs, we have updated the process for title proposals that are submitted to the CEMD EM site and that will be taken forward within CRGs. - When a CRG agrees to take forward a proposal, the Proposal Managers will attach the full proposal onto the email to authors and the ME, so that all details will be available to the ME to invite the proposal on their EM site.
- Proposal Managers will no longer request Declarations of Interest at the proposal stage on the CEMD EM site; rather, DOIs should be collected by MEs after accepting a full proposal for a protocol. This is in line with the COI policy instructions here, simplifies the process for Proposal Managers, and improves author experience so authors do not need to complete DOIs for submissions on both EM sites.
If you have any questions about this, please get in touch with Support.

2. Reminder: Please do not include CRG ID code in title in Archie
A quick reminder that while internal CRG ID codes from Archie can be included at the beginning of a title in Editorial Manager, these numbers should not be manually added to the beginning of the title in Archie (and thus, RevMan Web). If they are included at the beginning of the Archie title, the review number will be published in error on publication. Please note that the CRG ID code will only be automatically included in the title in Archie/RevMan Web, if the CRG ID code is added in EM to a title that is newly registered/accepted in Editorial Manager. If you have questions about this, please contact Support.

3. Changes to the process and policy for appeals of rejections
When a review or protocol is submitted for editorial processing, for publication in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, the editorial team may reject the submission at any stage before publication. Authors may appeal that decision. The process by which authors can appeal has now been revised, and is available on the Appeals process page on the Cochrane Library. Previously, appeals were considered by Network Senior Editors, but an appeal will now be considered by a member of the Cochrane Library Editorial Board who is able to act as an independent editor. Additionally, authors wishing to appeal a reject decision must now do so via Editorial Manager, and authors will be prompted and guided on how to do this. All appeals will be managed centrally, with managing editors kept informed of progress. Other updates include the mechanisms for resubmission should the rejection be overturned and revised timelines for the whole process. The policy on appeals has also been changed to clarify the reasons that may justify an appeal and to make it clear that only one appeals policy will be considered.

4. Forthcoming webinar on New Review Format: 10 November
The development of a new format for Cochrane reviews is an important project to help simplify and streamline our evidence synthesis development and publishing processes. In a webinar on 10 November, you will hear from the project leads Ella Flemyng (Editorial Product Lead) and Gert van Valkenhoef (Head of IT Development and Infrastructure) about the work they have done so far and upcoming plans. As always, there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Register for the 08:00 GMT session or 16:00 GMT session.

5. Reminder: survey for a ME face-to-face meeting
Please see email from Anna Erskine on the 20th October about organising a face-to-face meeting in Oxford in 2023. Responses to the short survey need to be in by 4th November.

6. Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods: a new open-access journal
Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods, which was announced at the recent AGM, is led by Michael Brown (Editor of Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods and Professor at University of Michigan, USA) and opens for submissions in November. The journal strengthens Cochrane’s ability to publish different types of evidence synthesis, methods research, and research on other areas vital to evidence synthesis. It provides a platform for disseminating research from across Cochrane groups and collaborators that until now have not been able to publish their research in a Cochrane journal, as well as creating opportunities for others in the wider, global evidence synthesis field. More details on the journal will be shared when it opens for submissions next month. The journal will consider evidence synthesis not in scope for the CDSR, such as gap maps, scoping reviews, rapid reviews, and research that aims to inform and develop evidence synthesis decisions and methods (e.g., methodological research, priority setting, consumer involvement, meta-research to improve research integrity, etc.). If you have any submission ideas or questions about the journal, please contact Ella Flemyng (Editorial Product Lead; eflemyng@cochrane.org).

7. MSU Web Clinic recording now available
The recording from our latest web clinic is available here. Dr Marty Chaplin from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine gave a fascinating presentation on the interpretation of subgroup analyses and expertly answered a variety of questions. Previous web clinic recordings are available here.
