Meet Anneke Damen of the Prognosis Methods Group

1) What's the aim of the Methods Group and who else is involved?

The Prognosis Methods Group focuses on the development, validation, dissemination and communication of methods and guidance for performing Cochrane Reviews of prognosis studies. The Group is led by Convenors Karel Moons (UMC Utrecht, Netherlands), Richard Riley (Keele University, UK), Jill Hayden (Dalhousie University, USA) and Katrina Williams (Monash University, Australia), and supported by me as Coordinator.

2) What do you do outside of the Methods Group?

I'm involved in several methodological and applied projects related to both primary prognosis studies and systematic reviews of prognosis studies. With Cochrane Netherlands we perform numerous commissioned reviews for, e.g., the Dutch Healthcare Institute. I teach several courses to Bachelor, Master and postdoctoral students in Medicine and Health Sciences, and I am member of the institutional medical ethical review board.

3) What's your favourite thing about Cochrane?

I really like working together with an international team of experienced and dedicated researchers, to improve the quality and impact of systematic reviews, particularly in this new but very rapidly emerging field of prognosis studies.

4) If you were stuck on a desert island, what would you take and why?

My laptop, as I will have lots of time to finally finish screening and data-extraction! And of course water, sunscreen and books.
